"Being a member of La Jeunesse was one of the most formative
and rewarding experiences of my life - what a gift it was to receive
such a musical education.

The high standards set out for members gave me a great
appreciation for what can come from disciplined work and
attention to detail. Rehearsing and performing at such a high level
pushed me to grow as a vocalist, helped me to hone the skills
required to perform difficult repertoire, and taught me how to
develop and maintain the physical abilities of my voice. I learned
to listen to music with a discerning ear and now employ those
skills as a professional musician.

Oh, and let’s not forget about the social side… being in a choir
was fun. We laughed and we cried together. We supported each
other through long rehearsals, tough recording sessions, and
unforgettable moments on stage.

Today, I am a founding-member of the roots-Americana group,
Good Lovelies. We are a Juno Award-winning trio of women that
includes myself, Kerri Ough (also a La Jeunesse alumnus) and
Caroline Brooks (who also has a choir background), and we are
best known for our harmony singing. I attribute my ability to
achieve such success as a singer to the skills I learned in La
Jeunesse. Other choir members have also gone on to careers as
performers or directors - you just never know what an experience
like this could inspire.

If nothing else, being in the choir gave me confidence, a deep
appreciation for musical excellence, and a lasting sense of pride
in what we accomplished together. I will carry those gifts with me
always."
